Ranking

The systematic use of belt color to denote rank was first used by the founder of judo, who first devised the colored belt system using sashes, and awarded the first black belts to indicate rank in the 1880s. Our sensei believes that the regular assessment and awarding of rank builds confidence, and we use the prevalent ranking system accepted by international martial arts authorities.

Making Progress

When a student shows through practice and testing that they have mastered various techniques, they may be awarded colored belts in a progression established by the masters of their art. When one has demonstrated aptitude in the basics of an art, they may be tested for a mastery ranking. The Black Belt is commonly used to indicate that a practitioner has passed through the student phase of their martial arts training. We offer master and student rank tests throughout the year, and ranks are awarded by our sensei at quarterly ceremonies.

Tournaments

Our dojo does attend tournaments in the various arts we instruct in. We have regional student champions in Karate, Kendo, and Aikido, and national champions in Taekwondo and Karate. Our sensei is known for having won international championships every year from 1968 to 1974 before he retired from competition and established our dojo. We are committed to the success and health of our students.
